4 Steps to Writing an Engaging Blog

PSA: You don’t have to be a skilled writer to create effective and engaging blog posts! Creating blog posts for your website is a great way to give your brand a personality and a voice; plus it enhances your SEO which will help increase traffic to your site. The idea of writing blogs can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be a challenging task. Following a structure can make the blog creation process achievable and successful. Take a look at these 4 simple steps to help you create blog content without the headache.

  1. Research and Planning
When planning your blog post, think of topics that relate to your brand but also interest you. The more interesting a topic is to the writer, the more personality the blog will have, and that is what web-surfers and potential customers love to read. Once you have your topic in mind, do your research – and lots of it. It’s crucial to have accurate information and data within each and every blog post you create. Plus, the more research you do and the information you gather, the easier the writing portion will be. If you feel it would be helpful to you, consider creating an outline for your blog at this stage.
  2. Create Your Headline
Once you have your topic nailed down and you have done your research, it is time to create a stellar headline. Ensure this title is intriguing, yet informative. You want people who are surfing the web to be drawn in by the tone of the headline, but they should also be confident that based on the title, the blog will provide them with the information they want to know. Keep in mind that people enjoy reading posts that are organized by numbered lists or subject lists, so titling your blog to represent this (like the title of this blog) is a great idea.
  3. Time to Write Your Blog
Now that the planning and titling are complete, it is time to write. If you made an outline for your blog at the planning stage, put it into action. Personally, I have always found it helpful to type out everything that goes through my head. Then, once I have typed out all of my thoughts, I go back and organize the text to be readable and visually appealing. Some people prefer to write the blog in its organized format from the beginning. You will discover which writing method you prefer after a few blogs. When you are writing, disconnect for an hour or two. Seeing text messages or emails pop up on your phone can distract you in the middle of a thought and cause writer’s block.
  4. Proofread and Add Images
You can never proofread too many times. Checking for grammatical errors is so important because posting a blog with misspellings and missing commas can negatively impact your SEO, as well as the integrity of your brand. While proofreading, think about what images, if any, could help tell your story. You can either purchase stock photos or take them yourself. If you take them yourself, ensure the photo quality is high and it doesn’t distract from your blog.
