Meme’s are typically created with purpose.  An image, video or similar goes viral and then, suddenly, it’s everywhere and everyone is playing off it.  In my last post, without even realizing it, I added to the growing list of stock photos of women biting laptops, posted on thechive.com here.  I was just looking for an image of someone frustrated with their internet searches, and that’s what I came up with.  Sure enough these images seem to be everywhere.  Why women? Why biting a laptop?  Are they hungry? For me, the biting was incidental, but it makes me wonder why there are so many of these photos.  Is it part of a larger commentary on women using computers? Is it sexualizing women, the internet, laptops, or women using laptops?  Is it a comment on eating disorders?  Or perhaps a warning against pica?  I could make guesses all day, but the fact is, I unwittingly took part in this growing trend.  Since I strive to set trends instead of following them, I have to admit, I’m a little embarrassed.  But, what’s done is done, so enjoy the picture of a woman biting that laptop and read into it whatever you wish.  Feel free to subtitle the image if you wish – I’d love to see what you come up with.
