SEO Tactics You Need To Avoid

Search Engine Optimization is the process of building the quality and quantity of website traffic and brand exposure through organic search. Google rewards you for proper SEO tactics, and as such, can punish you for poor SEO tactics. Let’s take a look at a few approaches that you should avoid.

Keyword Stuffing

Keyword stuffing is what it sounds like. It means putting keywords your target market is searching for on Google, and plugging them onto a page, a blog post, etc. The problem with stuffing keywords onto the page is that it makes your site hard to read and understand because the content appears out of context and overkilled. This creates a negative user experience that Google will penalize for.

Thin Content

Designing pages with few words, topics or ideas, and has little value creates a negative experience for users. Creating thin content doesn’t benefit your company either. It might help get people to your website, but once they are on it and realize they cannot find useful information, they will leave. This hurts any chance of conversions and highly decreases engagement. Make sure the content on your page creates value to users and includes information they would find important or helpful.

Link Buying

One way Google ranks your page is based on how many inbound links you have. Buying links to your webpage is possible, however, it comes with consequences. Google looks at the links in context, meaning they look to see if it comes naturally or if the source of the link is irrelevant. If the source of the link is irrelevant, it can negatively affect your SEO. While it may sound tempting to buy links, keep in mind that Google can tell if the source of the link is irrelevant or not, and it’s better to let them come naturally.
