Internships are a great way to learn and grow in a new environment, and I could not be more excited to begin my internship with Smarter Searches. There are a lot of skills I am hoping to enhance during my time at Smarter Searches, with the hopes to transfer those skills to wherever my professional career leads me.
Commercial Awareness
Working in an agency can be rewarding and exciting, but it is important to learn all of the ins and outs of how agency life works, including all of the skills and knowledge that go along with it. In the coming months, I hope to learn what it means to work in a digital marketing agency and sharpen my marketing skills. I look forward to learning about the value of SEO and how to incorporate SEO best practices through blog writing for each of our clients.
Communication
In the workplace, internal and external communication is key. I hope to sharpen my professional communication skills during my time at Smarter Searches to better communicate with clients and coworkers. Written communication is more important than ever, with less face-to-face contact due to the pandemic, and I hope to sharpen my skills in a way that translates to success for my team.
Teamwork
Throughout my years as a college athlete, my team always said “teamwork makes the dream work” and that could not be more true. While I may no longer be part of a sports team, I am looking forward to taking what I have learned and applying that to a professional team. I can’t wait to see how a college sports team and a team of professionals differ, and I know that the skills I’ve learned along the way will only help. I am looking forward to targeting my strengths and realizing my weaknesses within the team to make the best of every project and situation.
Critical Thinking
Being able to analyze a problem and form a solution is something that can be developed through practice, repetition, and hard work. While I have been working on this skill for a while, I am excited to learn how to apply my critical thinking skills to new situations within a digital marketing agency and be able to help think of creative solutions for new challenges, regardless of what they may be.
Being an intern in a marketing agency is a great opportunity to get better at both technical and soft skills that are important to the industry. I am eager to learn and grow during my time with Smarter Searches and look forward to working with this amazing team for the next few months!
